Gruijthuijsen’s practice is centered on the structuring of the artist within the curatorial position. As artist and curator, his work examines from a historical perspective the role of the artist and the necessity to produce an image, or how an artist positions himself in relation to a curator (or visa versa). The recourse to archives and mythologized or mystified forms are amongst the strategies he employs. In 2003, Gruijthuijsen graduated from the Art Academy, Maastricht with a Fine Arts degree, then earned a post-graduate degree at HISK, Antwerp in 2005. This was followed by a residency at Platform Garanti, Istanbul and curatorial fellowship at the Konstfack, Stockholm. Recent exhibitions include : “The chess tour” (solo), Het Domein, Sittard; “The Peekskill project”, HVCCA, Peekskill, NYand “INDEX: six perceptions on an archive”, collaboration with INDEX, at K1, Cultural house, Stockholm. Krist’s residency at Location One is supported by Fonds BKVB.
